July 02, 2025

Ontario’s iGaming sector experienced a historic surge in May 2025, setting new records in both gross gaming revenue (GGR) and total player wagering. The province’s regulated online gambling market reached a GGR of CA$338.0 million, a 2.9% increase from the previous record set in January 2025, and a 40.3% rise compared to May 2024. This growth was accompanied by a total wagering volume surpassing CA$8 billion for the first time, marking a 3.5% increase from April 2025 and a 28.9% jump from the previous year.

Online casinos led the charge, generating CA$259.8 million in revenue, which accounted for 77% of the total iGaming revenue in Ontario. This segment saw a 45.3% year-on-year increase, with player spending reaching CA$6.96 billion. Sports betting also showed strong performance, contributing CA$71.8 million to the revenue, a 26.3% increase from May 2024, while online poker revenue grew by 18.9% to CA$6.3 million.

Despite a slight 2.0% decrease in monthly active player accounts to 1.07 million, the average revenue per active player account (ARPPA) rose by 10.0% to CA$316, indicating higher spending among engaged players. Ontario’s iGaming market now features 50 licensed operators across 86 websites, showcasing a competitive and thriving industry that significantly outpaces other Canadian provinces.

This record-setting month underscores the growing consumer demand for online gambling in Ontario and the effectiveness of the province’s regulated market in generating substantial economic contributions. As Ontario continues to manage its fiscal priorities, the iGaming sector emerges as a key player in driving economic activity and revenue.
