It is only just a little over a month before the Halifax Tides launch their sophomore season.
In celebration, the Northern Super League franchise held a ceremony on Monday night where Halifax’s professional women’s soccer team unveiled this year’s kit in a ceremony at Pier 21.
All 22 players on the roster were also introduced to the crowd gathered at the event.
Among them was returning defender Annika Leslie, who says the jersey signifies the turning of a new page for the Tides.
“First of all, I think it’s awesome we are keeping the first two kits,” she says, referencing last year’s outfits. “I think those are a fan favourite. People in the stands have those already, so that’ll be cool to see, but I think adding the third kit just represents the growth of our team and building another block this season.”
Tides FC added no less than 11 new players since their inaugural season ended, including Cho So-Hyun, a highly skilled international midfielder from South Korea whose experience includes multiple FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments, where she captained the national team in 2015 and 2019.
American forward Jordyn Rhodes is another of those off-season signings, with Tides FC landing the attacker after gaining valuable experience playing in Iceland, where she scored 11 goals and provided two assists for Valur last year in the Besta Deild league.
She says a month into spring training, all the players are bonding and learning to gel.
“It’s been great,” Rhodes says, noting some of their off-the-pitch practice has involved bonding activities like puppy yoga. “I think the group of girls we have are all meshing really well, and it’s nice off the field, but it also makes it easier to learn how each of us plays on the field too,”
At Monday’s kit reveal ceremony, dozens of fans showed up despite snowy conditions, where they were treated to a fashion show, an exclusive merchandise table and a special meet and greet with this year’s roster of players.
