It’s a new chapter for the Halifax Chamber of Commerce as a former MLA and community leader steps into the top role.
Joanne Bernard is the new chair of the board for the Chamber, as announced at the organization’s annual general meeting on Wednesday.
Bernard, a former MLA and the current CEO of Easter Seals Nova Scotia, takes over from outgoing chair Ann Divine.
She is a long-time advocate for accessibility and inclusive employment, and the Chamber says her appointment aligns with its focus on diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion across the business community.
Patrick Sullivan, the Chamber’s president and CEO, says Bernard’s experience in public service and the not-for-profit sector will bring strong leadership to the board.
Bernard says she’s honoured to take on the role and looks forward to supporting a business community where inclusion, collaboration, and compassion lead the way.
The full 2025-2026 board of directors was also unveiled, representing business, academic and community voices from across the region.
The Halifax Chamber represents nearly 2,000 businesses and over 94,000 workers.
