The body of a missing youth has been recovered from Eden Lake, following a large search effort that spanned more than 24 hours.

RCMP say two youths were paddling separately on the lake around 5 p.m. Thursday when one of the kayaks overturned, causing the boy to disappear beneath the water.

Multiple agencies took part in the search, including Pictou County Fire services, Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) teams (Halifax GSAR, Pictou County GSAR, Strait Area GSAR, Colchester GSAR), a Department of Natural Resources helicopter, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA), RCMP Air Services, RCMP RPAS (drone) operators, and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team (URT) were involved in the search.

The boy’s remains were recovered around 7:45 p.m. Friday.

The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service is now involved. RCMP say criminality is not suspected.

Officials also extended thanks to the community for its support during this and other recent search efforts in the region.
