Halifax Regional Police say an early morning accident has sent a pedestrian to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police say they responded to a report of a 34-year-old woman hit by a garbage truck just after 5:30 Monday morning in the 200 block of Lacewood Drive.

Officials say Lacewood Drive eastbound between Willett Street and Dunbrack Street was closed to all traffic.

Traffic entering and leaving the shopping plaza at that location was also blocked.

Police say the traffic restrictions are expected to remain in place for an extended period and are asking drivers to find alternate routes.
