Stormy weather might be on its way back to Nova Scotia.

A special weather statement issued on Wednesday afternoon says much of the province, including the Halifax area, can expect unseasonably warm temperatures, significant rainfall and strong winds on Friday.

Temperatures are forecast to reach 11 C in Halifax on Friday.

Environment Canada’s statement says the province could see 25 millimetres or more of rain and winds gusting 80 to 100 km/h from Friday afternoon until Saturday afternoon.

“It’s Friday night we’re expecting the worst of the weather, the heaviest rain and the strongest winds,” said CityNews meteorologist Allister Aalders. “This weather does ease into Saturday, but Saturday will still be a windy day with falling temperatures.”

The national forecaster meantime says rain combined with melting snow may cause significant runoff and could cause some flooding. The wind could impact tree branches and utility lines, it warned.
