The Halifax Mooseheads suffered a loss Sunday night, falling 5-2 to the Saint John Sea Dogs.
Saint John scored a pair of goals in the first period as Oskar Drabczynski netted the opening goal on the Sea Dogs’ first shot of the game and Angello Fullerton finished a play from Olivier Duhamel, firing the puck past Nick Cirka.
After a scoreless second period, Liam Kilfoil opened the scoring for the Mooseheads at 1:04 of the third, taking advantage of a misplay in front of the Saint John net and beating netminder Rafaël Courchesne. The Sea Dogs responded with two goals as Everett Baldwin buried his own rebound while Duhamel blasted a shot past Cirka. Will Bent brought the Mooseheads back to within two at 6:39, recovering the puck in the Saint John end and firing a shot from the right-wing faceoff circle into the Sea Dogs’ goal, but Dylan Rozzi scored on an empty Mooseheads net to secure the win for Saint John.
With the loss, Halifax falls to 18-15-1-2 on the season.
The Sea Dogs swept the three stars as Courchesne was awarded first star after making 31 saves in the win. Duhamel earned second star with a goal and an assist, while third star went to Drabczynski with a goal.
The Mooseheads are back in action Friday, Jan. 9, as they face the Charlottetown Islanders at the Eastlink Centre.
