Nova Scotia RCMP says it has arrested and charged a man following a hate-motivated incident at a hockey game earlier this month.
On Feb. 6, officers began investigating an incident where a spectator shouted a hateful comment toward a youth refereeing a hockey game at the Eastern Shore Community Centre.
Police say the referee ended the game and asked the spectator to leave.
This past Tuesday, officers arrested a 39-year-old man from East Chezzetcook for mischief in connection with the incident.
He was released and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date.
“The RCMP take all reports of hate-motivated incidents and hate crimes seriously,” the Mounties said in a statement.
“If you witness or experience behaviour that appears motivated by bias, prejudice, or hostility, please report it to your nearest RCMP detachment or local police.”
