A long-running Nova Scotia music festival will be celebrating a big milestone this summer.
The Stan Rogers Folk Festival, better known as Stanfest, is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
The festival started off as a weekend camping event in Canso, and it has since grown to a seven-day music festival showcasing dozens of talented musicians.
The latest edition of the festival will feature a RoadShow series comprised of 10 concerts throughout Guysborough County, as well as a powerful tribute to the Canadian folk legend and the event’s namesake. The tribute will include performances by his wife, Ariel Rogers and son Nathan Rogers, along with Lennie Gallant, Dave Gunning, Lisa Richard, The Barra MacNeils, among others, on the Main Stage on July 23.
The festival’s artistic director, Steve MacIntyre, says organizers are proud of the event’s continued success and that the 30-year celebration will be a huge tip of the hat to Stan Rogers.
“While we considered several ideas for Thursday’s Kickoff Concert, it became clear that the best way to honour 30 years of Stanfest was to celebrate Stan himself,” says MacIntyre in a release. “His life and the spirit of his music have guided this festival since the beginning, and we’re proud to recognize and honour that legacy.”
The festival will run from July 20 until July 26 and tickets are available at Stanfest.com.
