Talks are scheduled for Tuesday between the provincial government and many of Nova Scotia’s long-term care workers.
As the final day of conciliation talks scheduled between the two sides gets underway, the province and the Canadian Union of Public Employees will work toward a last-minute agreement.
Workers held information pickets across Nova Scotia on Monday, with CUPE aiming to spread awareness of what the union wants in a deal and outline the chances of a province-wide strike in the long-term care sector.
CUPE’s Christa Sweeney says workers deserve fair pay and fully staffed workplaces.
The union has said Nova Scotia’s long term care workers are the lowest paid in the region.
Speaking last month, long term care minister Barbara Adams said she was confident a deal can be reached and a strike avoided.
Adams also said plans will be in place to ensure essential care continues to be provided.
