Wildfire risk season has officially begun and the Department of Natural Resources is reminding Nova Scotians of restrictions that are now in place until October.

Between Mar. 15 and Oct. 15, no domestic bush burning or camp fires are allowed between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The government’s website will update conditions daily and inform residents when further restrictions are put in place.

Last summer, wildfires in Long Lake and Lake George characterized a particularly smoky Nova Scotia. According to Environment Canada, the Long Lake wildfire set new records for air quality warnings and advisories.
