Halifax firefighters rescued two occupants from a burning apartment building Friday night.
Emergency crews responded to reports of a structure fire on Enid Avenue Road in Spryfield around 9:30 p.m. While en route, firefighters say they received multiple reports of occupants trapped inside, prompting an immediate second alarm.
The structure in question was a three-storey apartment, with a working fire on the top floor and the rear of the structure. A hose line was deployed to the rear of the building while crews raised a ladder to vent-enter-search (VES).
“VES is a high-risk, time-critical tactic used to quickly access and search rooms through windows when conditions inside are rapidly deteriorating,” Halifax Professional Fire Fighters said in a post on X. “It allows firefighters to isolate and search areas where victims are most likely to be found.”
During their search, crews located two occupants and rescued them from the unit.
Upon the arrival of additional crews, operations expanded to further hose lines and establish a coordinated fire attack.
“Our thoughts are with those impacted by this fire,” HPFF said.
