There has been a significant midweek jump to the price of diesel in Halifax.
The Nova Scotia Energy Board invoked the interrupter clause overnight, pushing diesel prices up by nearly seven cents.
At 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 28, the price of diesel increased by 6.7 cents to 174.0 cents per litre.
The interrupter did not impact the cost of gasoline, so the price of regular self-serve gas remains at 133.0 cents per litre.
According to the provincial regulator, the change was necessary due to significant shifts in the market price of diesel oil.
The benchmark price of diesel oil is based on an average of the daily market price for refined diesel oil on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), converted into Canadian dollars.
