WINNIPEG — NFI Group Inc. announced its CEO, Paul Soubry, will be retiring at the end of the year after being with the company for 16 years.

The Winnipeg-based bus maker says John Sapp will step into the chief executive role on Jan. 1.

NFI says that Soubry will continue to support the company in an advisory role over the next year to help with the transition.

Sapp says in a press release that he will be focusing on enhancing the customer experience, as well as operational improvements and driving growth.

Sapp has served as president of Eaton Corporation’s aerospace division since 2023.

The CEO transition comes after NFI reported in November that its third-quarter net loss widened to US$140.9 million as it faced a new tariff on buses.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 17, 2025.
