The Halifax Mooseheads losing streak continued Sunday evening as they fell 5-2 to the Val-d’Or Foreurs.
Val-d’Or scored the lone goal of the first period when Jordan Labelle beat Nick Cirka on the backhand at 7:47.
In the second, the Foreurs continued to control the play, scoring three unanswered goals. Philippe Veilleux scored twice, his first coming on a penalty shot, and Louis-Charles Plourde added to the lead by redirecting a shot into the Mooseheads’ net.
Liam Kilfoil opened the scoring for Halifax at 10:10, redirecting a shot from Oleg Kulebiakin past Val-d’Or netminder Vincent Moreau. Josh Demers responded for the Foreurs, recording his second of the year by knocking the puck past Cirka.
Shawn Carrier fired a shot off the faceoff, beating Moreau late in the third, but the Mooseheads ran out of time as Val-d’Or claimed the victory.
With the loss, Halifax falls to 14-10-1-1 on the season.
Veilleux claimed first star of the game with two goals. Second star went to Plourde, while Owen Phillips earned third star with an assist.
The Mooseheads will be back in action Thursday, Dec. 11, when they host the Charlottetown Islanders.
